Theory Exercise 1

The blog that I have chosen is called ‘Warnings’ by Sara Ahmed. Sara is known as a ‘spokesperson’ known to be handling different subjects and problems within society that we as humans encounter. Mostly round the subjects of feminism, race and postcolonialism.
These subjects/ problems that people encounter on the daily are subjects that created her career and continued her work as an independent scholar and blogger. Which stands and represents as being able to reach people who recognize themselves in her something of their own experience. This specific blog text caught my attention, because as soon as I started reading it I started visualizing the information as a piece or experience of myself. As humans beings we are often warned for the things, thoughts, choices and mistakes we make or shouldn’t make. Due to the cause of choosing a specific ‘path’ it relates to a certain consequences for the choices we make when we are upset. It puts us between choosing for ourselves or others. In a sense of doing what is right or ignoring our own feelings.
What caught my interest is the fact that considering filing a complaint requires only facing the consequences or warnings of not filing it, rather than getting actual solutions to the problem that someone encounters. There are different subjects that I read a long that helped me create a summary and reflect on the article. Such as different types of warnings, the way they are perceived, the intention of warnings but most importantly the impact and the strength warnings and complaints have. During my research I was looking for the perfect explanation of my own perception of how warnings can be interpreted. What I was looking for and meaning is having a specific status image or name equals power.
Me for example being the one who is or wants to file a complaint has more underlining levels of difficulties than the actual complaint itself. No matter the environment or circumstances filing a complaint considers a lot of thinking. In my perception it creates a feeling of not neglecting the problem that hurts me or reconsidering the image I perceive to others. The influence and power of others strongly effect the state of mind and decision making process of a would-be-complainer.
My favorite quote of the entire blog text was: ‘’ Power manifests as the withdrawal of support for those who show how power manifests.’’ To me it represents as if you choose to follow a curtain path that would undermine others, the power lies within the support you are getting. As you may read my reflection is mostly based on the feelings a would-be complainer would have for filing an complaint undermining your own emotions and feelings isn’t worth not speaking or sharing your truth or pain. This does depend on the kind of complaint an individual is making. Through personal experiences I have learned that it really isn’t worth neglecting your own pain and feelings to please others. To me these experiences go hand in hand on dwelling on such matters.
An art piece related to the information that I read is ‘De Schreeuw’ by Edvard Munch. I have chosen this specific art piece because, to me it truly reflects back on the emotions and overwhelming feelings people have once they experience any pain or sorrow dealing with a certain complaint or issue. It reflects on the present moment of dealing with different issues, from different perspectives in choosing and making the right decision.

Words that I didn’t understand:
1. anticipatory – happening or felt in the anticipation of something
2. causality – cause and effect of a specific event or process that contributes to the production or cause.
3. precarious – uncertain, unsure
4. velocity – rate of change (speed)
5. empirical – information received through observation and documentation of patterns, behaviour through experiments.
